Beveled edge is another classic edge treatment. We grind a sloped surface along the mirror edge. The slope angle is 15 to 30 degrees from the mirror face. The width is usually 10 to 20mm. After polishing, the bevel shines like a diamond. The mirror gets a bright "light band" around the edge. The visual effect is very refined. Beveled edge mirrors are common in European-style, light luxury, or neoclassical bathrooms. They pair well with gold or antique bronze faucets. The overall feel is more ornate. We use a double-sided edging machine for beveling. Two grinding wheels work on the front and back at the same time. One pass completes the job. Efficiency is high and the symmetry is good.
Two things can ruin a beveled edge. One is uneven width along the edge. The other is uneven angle. Our double-sided edging machine has high-precision guide rails at the feed end. The glass stays in a fixed position as it passes through. The upper and lower grinding wheels feed at the same rate. The width deviation stays within ±1mm. For polishing, we use a wool wheel with cerium oxide powder. The surface comes out as shiny as a mirror. There are no grinding marks. After each mirror, our inspector uses an angle gauge to check the bevel angle. This ensures every batch is consistent.
There is no absolute right answer between beveled and frosted edges. It depends on your style and preference. Beveled edge is shinier and more ornate. Good for people who like a refined look. Frosted edge is softer and more modern. Good for minimalist styles. For safety, frosted edge is more rounded. Beveled edge, even polished, still has a sharper corner. If you have children or elderly at home, frosted edge is safer. For cost, beveled edge takes more time to process. It costs about 20% to 30% more than a ground edge. Some customers use both in the same bathroom. A beveled edge for the main mirror to show quality. A frosted edge for the secondary mirror to save cost. The combination works well.
Large mirrors are harder to bevel. Any mirror over 1.2 meters long can shake as it passes through the edging machine. This causes waves in the bevel. Our solution is to add extra support rollers at the front and back of the machine. The long mirror stays stable and level during processing. After the machine pass, we hand-polish the two ends of the bevel. This ensures the shine and width are consistent across the whole edge. This is why our large beveled edge mirrors have high repeat orders. The details hold up under close inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can a beveled edge be made matte?
A: Yes. But then it loses its shine. That is not common.
Q: Is the bevel color always clear?
A: After polishing, the bevel is clear. If the mirror is silver, the bevel shows a silver shine.
Q: Do I need a thicker mirror for a beveled edge?
A: The standard 5mm is enough. As long as the bevel width is no more than 20mm, you do not need thicker glass.
